As with every generation of Pokemon games, there is a few trainers that are willing to trade Pokemon with you. Some are really weird because they want the easiest Pokemon to find yet, give you something much rarer.
Before you reach get the National Dex, there are 3 trades to complete or at least, "consider".

In Oreburgh City a woman is willing to trade you her Abra for you Machop. Abra is a pain to catch so if you have tried and tried and failed and failed, just catch a Machop on Route 207 and trade it to her.

In Eterna City a little boy wants to trade his Chatot (rare) for your Buizel (common) (see what I mean by trading rarer Pokemon for common ones?). You can find a Buizel on Route 205.

In Snowpoint City wants a Medicham so she'll trade her Haunter for one. Don't get all happy and start thinking "I'm going to get a Gangar!!! WOOT!!" because you wont. It's holding an Everstone. But you can't get a Haunter before you get the National Dex without going to the Old Chateu, catching a Gastly and evolving it. So if you want one now, get a Medicham from Victory Road or Route 217 and trade.
